Harrington scoffed.
“You didn’t even make the list,” he shot back, climbing over Jonathan to take his lips in an indulgent kiss. “They’re obviously idiots.”
“Sure,” was all Jonathan could think to say in response. Photoshoots and awards shows had shown him that he cleaned up well, but he knew even then he was not what was considered conventionally attractive. According to Harrington, however, he was gorgeous, and he said it enough Jonathan almost believed he meant it.

“You?” Steve had asked after nearly choking on his beer. “A baby? Why?"
“I’ve always wanted to have kids,” Robin had started with a shrug.
It was true, she just never voiced it because of all the expectations and assumptions involved. Her mom guilted her enough without knowing a grandchild was a possibility, and her female friends always acted like motherhood was a nightmare, including Nancy.
“Bringing a literal human being into the world and watching them grow into their own person seems amazing. Like, they start out as basically a parasite, right? Then they experience the world, and learn to express themselves, and grow into an individual who takes parts of you into their own life. They develop their own ideas, and interests, and sense of humor, and–”
“I know, Robin.” The pain in his voice had stopped her rambling more than his interruption. “Jonathan and I want kids for all those reasons, but…”

"To some," Aunt Darlene agrees with amusement that yields back to gentle severity as she continues. "Not everyone can access those forces the same. You, for instance, are what our minds interpret as a raven. A weapon you forge, even with your imagination, has the potential to create a deep, unbreakable bond between you and the person who wields it. They become a wolf through that bond, giving them access to those forces. Without the guidance of their raven, however, those forces may cause them to lose their grip on reality."

“I can be your blanket if you get cold,” Jonathan offers.
“Hm.” Steve’s tongue wets his lips. Jonathan is momentarily transfixed by the movement over the bow of their shape and the texture created by the delicate crinkles of chapped skin.
“We can share body heat,” Jonathan continues when he gets no further response. “We’ll open our jackets and I’ll sit in your lap so we can snuggle.”
An eye cracks open to peer at Jonathan.

The shape loomed dark and odd in the middle distance, flat on the sand like some dead thing, ominous in its unrecognizability. Through the lash of salt, Eddie squinted, walking toward the shape with morbid curiosity.
