Summary
After The Quiet Fight, the battle was supposed to be over.
Ilya survived cancer. He made it back to the NHL. He finished his first season back on the ice. From the outside, it looks like a victory.
But survival doesn’t mean peace.
This sequel picks up in the aftermath—when the adrenaline fades and the real cost begins to surface. Ilya is fighting a body that still hasn’t fully forgiven him. Shane is fighting a mind shaped by months of fear, hospitals, and the constant threat of loss. And together, they’re fighting each other—trying to love, plan a future, and breathe again while remission looms quietly in the background.
This is a story about what comes after the battle, when Shane and Ilya are learning how to live when they are no longer in crisis—but not free from it either. A story about the tension between gratitude and grief, strength and fragility, love and resentment.
The fight feels louder than ever.

“Come on, baby, once in a while does not hurt. Rookies say that drunk cigarettes don’t count, have you ever heard that? I think is funny,” Ilya tries, his kisses softer now, trying to work Shane into the soft, pliant mess he loves.
It doesn’t work. In fact – “What’s that, Ilya?”
Ilya is biting anywhere he can find, “I don’t have gun license, so I must be happy to see you.”
But that doesn’t work either. Shane finally moves – only to grab at Ilya’s collar, pulling it so that it digs into the back of his neck, which has Ilya pausing as Shane inspects. “That, Ilya. What’s that.”
or, Shane finds some (perfectly explainable) lipstick on Ilya's collar, and they both go through emotional saw traps

“Dare,” he says with a smirk.
Cliff strokes his chin and thinks very deeply. “I dare you…” he starts, “to make the freshman fall in love with you within a month.”
Some people around them laugh.
Ilya’s smirk grows even wider. “And what do I get when I manage to do so? It is not that easily said and done. Takes time, you know?”
“Mm, you’re right. I’ll give you…”
“Fifty bucks,” Ilya says before Cliff is done thinking. “And a bottle of that nice vodka your dad always has.”
“Deal!” Cliff says and holds out his hand.
Ilya shakes it.

Summary
Shane is the one naked and dripping wet, and he still feels like Ilya is the one who exudes sex. Just standing there, brushing his teeth. When Shane turns off the water, Ilya hands him a towel and then turns around to rinse his mouth with the hotel mouth wash. He leaves the bathroom before Shane is done, and this is the moment where a tiny inkling Shane has ignored all day becomes a full blown suspicion.
Or:
Shane and Ilya are having trouble balancing their very private relationship and their very public lives.
