Buck tensed up. “What do you know about it?”
“Nothing, nothing man, okay? I don’t know anything except what I’ve seen.”
“And what’s that?”
“I shouldn’t -”
“No, come on, what have you seen?”
“You don’t use your left hand unless you have to, you consistently favor your left leg, and you lean in closer a lot to hear people when they’re talking.”
“And what did that tell you?”
“That something happened to you, probably on the job, and probably not something you’ll recover from.”
OR Eddie joins the 118 after Buck is permanently disabled by an explosion at a call. Despite initial tensions, they learn just how important they can be to one another.

“Ravi?” Chimney says as they rush over.
Ravi’s sitting back on his heels now, blinking sluggishly, as he half unzips his jacket like he’s trying to take it off. His movements are jerky, his hands fumbling with the zipper and Chimney’s gut twists. All the voices are blurring together. He thinks someone is saying his name, but it sounds like a dream. He couldn’t answer if he wanted to.
“Hey, don’t do that,” Eddie says quickly, kneeling beside him, hands gently moving Ravi’s own. “‘Leave it on, okay?”

Summary
The top of the train creaks again, loud and threatening. Some gravel rains down, clanking lightly on his helmet as it clatters to the ground.
“Rav,” Buck turns to say, his voice laced with worry. “Let’s pick up the pace.”
Ravi looks up at him, his leg mid-motion getting ready to step out from behind the concrete pillar. He opens his mouth to say something to Buck, but he doesn’t get the chance to. The top of the train groans one last time before it comes crashing down.
Buck is knocked off his feet, flung back from the sheer force of all the debris tumbling down around him. His head smacks hard against the ground, rattling around in his helmet. Dust fills his vision, crawls up down his throat and nose. It chokes him.
For a second, the world is silent.
Complete and utter silence.
or
Ravi gets hurt and Buck spirals.
