Summary
Sonic hadn't been on Earth very long, maybe a year or two? He'd stayed away from the people; he was fast! So he never got caught! He kept his rings on him just in case he needed to leave, not that he wanted to-- he found a really nice cave in the woods in Montana with a little town nearby, perfect for nicking food and things.
And then he got caught, his rings were taken, and he was put into a cage. His life turns from carefree running to his heart's content to curling up in the corner of his cage, hoping the man didn't come by and decide he was good bait for the dogs again. Time stretches on like that, a routine of suffering and fear--
And then someone new comes in, a man and a woman, and they don't treat him like a dog.
Or, some idiot jerkwad decided to traffic dogs in Green Hills' woods, Tom has opinions and they are 'yeah imma stop you right there-- HOLY SHIT IS THAT AN ALIEN' I let Tom and Maddie freak out about the alien part bc im self indulgent

Then his eyes caught movement behind Knuckles.
A shadow. Long, jagged spines silhouetted by firelight, swaying with each deliberate step. Smoke curled around the figure as it approached, using an overturned car like a ramp, metal shoes hitting the car with solid, thudding force.
Sonic’s mouth gaped as another hedgehog stood before them, black with red stripes, a scowl and red eyes. He looked so… cool.
And strapped to his chest was– Sonic’s entire brain stopped.
“Is that a baby!?” Sonic shouted in disbelief.

When Team Sonic is deployed to defeat the threat in Tokyo, they very quickly realize the 'threat' is just a dad protecting his kid, and that GUN has a LOT more to answer for. -

Summary
They sure had their work cut out for them.
But hey, they got this. Between the five of them, Tom had no doubt that Shadow would feel comfortable and heal in no time. With Sonic’s good-natured spirit, Tails’ helpful optimism, Knuckles’ watchful steadfastness, Maddie’s gentle kindness, and Tom’s… Tom will figure out what he can do, but for now, they totally have this. Shadow was going to be okay.

Shadow doesn't fall for Gerald's manipulations when asked to power the cannon meant to destroy the world. Unfortunately, Gerald had a contingency for that. Shadow finds he can't hurt Gerald, but maybe a different angry hedgehog can...
Or, what if Shadow showed up while Sonic was crashing out, but before he went super, asking for help to defeat Gerald? (And the only reason Shadow isn't a smear on the pavement is bc of Knuckles)(Guys if you couldn't tell I'm a SUCKER for competent Knuckles I will not apologize and I will keep doing it)
“Last chance,” Sonic spat, completely ignoring the fox, “Where is it.”
Knuckles gritted his teeth. “Don’t do this.”
A shocked sound came from Tails, a sound of fear. Sonic and Knuckles broke their staring contest, if only to glance at Tails and the worrying sound he made.
“Uh- guys?!” Tails’s voice shook slightly, eyes locked onto something behind Knuckles down the road. The fox settled into a fighting stance, only making them more concerned. “Shadow is back!”
Both echidna and hedgehog whipped around, bodies still crackling with energy, eyes ablaze with too many complicated emotions now narrowed on one person.

Summary
The little gadget didn’t seem any different from when Tails used it last, though he surmised it wasn’t entirely too long ago they had used it -Tails did like to tinker with things he had already made. He clearly hadn’t with this one, yet the black screen blinked with green lines, triangulating an area a certain distance away, pulsing with numbers that didn’t make any sense to Sonic.
“Those are some big numbers,” Sonic noted, glancing questioningly at the fox.
“Yeah,” Tails agreed, eyes wide. “The exact numbers we saw when we were looking for Shadow.”
Sonic’s eyes went wide too, “Wait, you mean…”
“If the tracker is correct,” Knuckles grunted, “the more impressive hedgehog could be alive.”
Or, Shadow is alive and being hunted by GUN, Sonic and Co. arrive just in time to save him but not before Shadow is knocked unconscious. Shadow expects to be waking up back with GUN, trapped and alone and probably in stasis again, when he does wake up it is... not that.

Summary
“You jumped out of a GUN helicopter, there’s nothing to talk about.” The dark hedgehog hissed dismissively and turned to go.
Knuckles huffed, shaking out his fists, “Alright then-“
Sonic grabbed the echidna before he could lunge and start a fight. “Knuckles, no.”
“He threw a car at us!” Knuckles argued while pointing up at the other hedgehog with the hand Sonic hadn’t grabbed.
Sonic sighed, pushing Knuckles’ hand down, “he’s probably just defending himself, we did come from a GUN helicopter. Obviously this guy doesn't like GUN, and we’re not GUN.”
Or, what if they actually talked during that first interaction? What if Shadow got pulled to the good side much earlier bc he’s just so sad Team Sonic can’t help but get attached

Summary
The Valuka Shuna was kneeling on the ground, the tattered fabrics covering them could only barely be considered clothes. Their arms were spread and angled behind them, chained taut to the walls. They were leaning forward heavily, head bowed with a third chain dangling from their neck that led to the floor. Pulled in two directions, the chain only slack enough to give relief to one direction or the other, keeping the prisoner in a constant state of tension and pain. Their dark bushy tail was matted and dusty, hair similarly disheveled. Their ears were pinned down and backward, not a single twitch.
Cyno was speechless, he couldn’t figure out what to say first.
How dare you. He wanted to shout.
Release them. He longed to demand.
“What have you done.” He whispered in horror.
