Summary
Perhaps he could have been more... polite, in his refusal of her touch, at least the first few times. He simply saw a hand wrapped in green approaching his face and he responded. The regret that washed over him at the sound of her yelp - startled and pained, a tragic accessory to the tremor in her wrist born from him grasping it so tight - was overwhelming, almost suffocating, and yet... he did it again, the next attempt she made. And the one after that, and the one after that.
Nevertheless, for reasons unknown, she persisted.
Must have been that morbid curiosity of hers.

The sentence barely registers in Mydei’s mind as he stares at the shadow of the man who was once Phainon, who sits completely still in a chair, dull eyes staring sightlessly ahead.

The Antikytheran-like man continues reading through the digitized logs impartially, as if merely reciting a speech. But every single word he says drives another stake into Mydei’s heart.
Mydeimos the Undying scarcely bowed his head, rarely lowered himself onto his knees, and never, ever begged. And yet he finds himself doing all three things now, before the broken shell of his beloved.

A shift in the air carries a smokey scent along with it– The musk steeped in memories of rest and wonder –and she changes direction, unwavering even in the face of that silhouette of a familiar Cookie standing shadowed in the tallgrass.
Wisping smoke billows around them. Enshrouds them– The dance it makes around their figure is as entrancing as it is damning.
