    Summary

Tyler’s feet sank into the mossy forest floor as he blinked against the gray light slipping through the canopy. His limbs ached with a weariness he couldn’t place, like he’d run a marathon through someone else’s dream. The red jumpsuit clung to him, stiff and unfamiliar, its shoulders marked with strips of dull tape that felt more like warnings than repairs. He didn’t remember putting it on. He didn’t remember much of anything.

Meanwhile, behind a curtain somewhere he couldn’t see, Clancy stood just beyond the throb of a pulsing crowd. The air backstage was heavy with sweat, static, and that electric hush right before a name is screamed into lights. His chest rose and fell too fast, fingers twitching against a borrowed microphone. He had no idea how he got here. He had no idea who he was expected to be. But they were chanting, calling for someone. For him?

    What could go wrong?
