Summary
Robotnik stared at the Agent, mind racing, hypotheses opening out in a dozen different tabs of the browser in his mind, each trying to home in on why he had been sent this agent.
Ah. It had finally happened.
The government was trying to kill him. For realsies this time.
-
After failing his latest psych evaluation, Agent Stone finds himself pulled from almost a decade in the international field and placed on domestic babysitting duty for an eccentric scientist who makes it very clear that Stone could either walk away right now or else quit in a bodybag. Well, Stone has never been a quitter and what begins as a war of attrition over some HR forms slowly morphs into a functional(?) working relationship and the beginnings of a deeply unprofessional crush on his boss. That is, right up until the government comes up with a plan B to get rid of them both.

Summary
Robotnik had many rules for working in his lab.
There was one rule, however, that the Doctor stressed as the most important of all, and if he even thought of defying it, the badniks were trained to eliminate him on sight.
Agent Stone was never, under any circumstances, permitted to touch Doctor Ivo Robotnik.

“This is what I mean, Stone.” Robotnik hummed, fingers tracing soothing circles over the bruises he’d just assaulted, the touch sending ripples of electricity through his tired body. “Like pushing a button on one of my beautiful machines, you do exactly what I want you to do.”

Every other agent before Stone had failed. Some faltered at the first barked command to pin themselves to the wall, others crumbled at the second or third. None had lasted to the fourth.
But Stone? Stone surpassed them all, cementing himself as the Doctor’s right-hand man for one simple, undeniable reason:
...he was into it.

so compelling. love robotnik's sudden, genuine panic when stone is compromised in the simulations and the surprising mental toll it takes on him. nothing like realizing how much you care about someone by watching countless versions of them die!

Summary
Before he even met Doctor Robotnik, Agent Stone understood the undeniable rules of being his, and truly, he was his. There was a sense of belonging that came with being around the Doctor as a whole, and it was not one of compassion or comfort like one may feel in a domestic partnership. No, from the briefing he had been given on Robotnik, Stone understood that he would no longer be property of the government once he was assigned to him. Instead, he would be Robotnik’s and Robotnik’s alone, no longer his own, yet nothing to Robotnik either. To the Doctor, he was an object to use and dispose of as he saw fit, and most days, even less. That was rule one.
AKA: I intended to write a brief thing about how Stone and Robotnik got together and got wildly carried away.

Summary
Doctor Robotnik is simultaneously touch averse and touch starved, which results in a plan to "get the touching needs over with" in the most efficient way he could think of: cuddles overnight, when he wouldn't be doing anything useful anyway.
Agent Stone was not privy to the plan until they arrived at their hotel room for their business trip.
