Summary
Captain Kirk is chosen as T'Pring's champion for the kal-if-fee - only, he's always been more of a lover than a fighter.
Or: Kirk convinces T'Pau to allow him to take T'Pring's place as Spock's mate, and Spock doesn't seem to have any objections.

Summary
He tosses his head back and forth to meet the face of his attacker, but is met only with more of the same crushing darkness.
Friendship, he thinks aloud in every language he knows. Alliance! Peace. No harm. No harm! I am here to help.
The attacker shakes him forcefully until he allows his body to go limp.
And finally, it responds.
‘No.. harm…?’ It is a hissing, creaky voice nearby. Liar. You say ‘no harm?’ The voice moves closer. I know that you have come here to kill me.
The hot breath, the slicing edge of the voice along his neck, makes every hair on his body stand up.
No kill. No harm. I am Spock. I am here to help.
You fool. He is startled by another dizzying hit across his burning face, and he gasps as the sting spreads down his neck. You useless Son of the Light. No harm? The harm is already done. There is no help for me.

Summary
And there, behind them: a failed assassination in the form of a sharp-cheeked young elf, his skin brown and his eyes the curious brown-gold of the earth being hit directly by sunbeams. A staff on his back, his hair a mess. An incurable sort of interest to his eyebrows, his unsmiling mouth, the tilt of his ears. “Who are you, and who sent you after us?”
It starts like this: a sudden desire, once more, to survive.
“My name is Zevran Arainai,” he explains, speaking only to the elf — he is the leader, even if the young Warden doesn’t know it. “I was sent to kill you.”
“You seem to be doing spectacularly,” he observes.

Summary
Drust finds Sten inscrutable, but despite their differences the Qunari is astonishingly easy to talk to. Zevran, by contrast, he understands—perhaps better than he could ever find words to express—but the assassin has a thousand walls up and Drust can't figure out how to work his way through them.
Apparently his inconvenient heart doesn't know when to leave well enough alone. He ought to be focused on the Blight, but he never thought he'd be pining like this.

Summary
The surface world wasn't something Drust had given much thought to: after all, he'd never imagined he'd get the chance to be anything but a casteless thug. He certainly never thought he'd find himself craving a human's touch—or that anyone but his sister would ever look at him like he really meant something.
The journey to Ostagar will change everything for him, and what happens there will change everything else.
