Summary
In a version of Westeros where the Dance of the Dragons never happens, the realm is held together through careful alliances instead of open war. Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen remains heir to the Iron Throne, but her future is still decided for her when she is betrothed to Ser Gwayne Hightower in a political effort to secure stability between crown and Oldtown.
Neither of them has any choice in the matter, and neither of them is pleased about it.
Rhaenyra refuses to be treated like a bargaining piece in her own father’s court, while Gwayne is dragged into a union that ties him to a woman he’s been taught to see as dangerous, unpredictable, and politically inconvenient. What starts as resentment and constant friction slowly shifts as they’re forced into the same spaces, the same decisions, and the same public image.
In a court built on appearances, they learn quickly that hate is easy. Living with the consequences of it is harder.
