Summary
Mickey has been out on parole for a year and is finally feeling good about himself--feeling free. He's holding down a good, honest job as a mechanic, going to court appointed therapy, living in his own place, and maybe even has a friend. He is finding that freedom is a journey of the mind and having good things not only means working towards them, but also believing you deserve them. However, he soon discovers how fragile those things can be and how easily everything can all come crashing down around him when a new parolee walks through the door, bringing with him some of Mickey's demons that he thought he'd long since buried.

她们冲上去拉开Ian，看见Ian木然无措的脸，又去看地上重重喘息的Mickey，他的每一声呼吸都像在拉锯片，鲜红的血液流淌了满脸，抽搐的同时飞溅开来。Mickey似乎陷入了严重的呼吸困难，双眼翻白，他甚至无法意识到自己已经被松开。这幕很渗人，Fiona用力掰开他拍打自己脖子的手，大声地重复让他呼吸，却见他脖子上有青紫色的掐印，还能看见下面浅淡未消的吻痕。他们都知道那是谁带来的。
可当Fiona去找Ian的身影，那里已经没有人。
Mickey终于恢复正常的呼吸。任何一个人要是他，也许会哭泣，会愤怒，会不解，绝望，因为最爱的人想杀了他，选择逃避。很多人会做出一切剧烈的负面反应直到自己停下来，这像地球停止自转那样难。

Ian's being so harsh on himself by using these terms. It makes sense. But he shouldn't have. He doesn't need to.

an interesting and suspiciously realistic one...
i lowkey prefer the original ending the author had planned. during the first half of the reading i was convinced that all they needed was just a proper closure and that it would be better off for both of them to be apart because despite what they'd been throught together was all hard and intense, time can dilute almost anything plus their pace of life was just so different at this point (kinda think if mickey did spend eight years or more in prison and ian had a stable relationship in the meantime, nothing could've ever work out between them...) then we have the sex after ian got engaged with trevor, which imo depicts so perfectly the dynamic of their relationship. the tension the heat the desperation the desire to swallow/destroy/possess idk and the physical pain on mickey are all so vivid and ian's confession is just heartbreaking, idk maybe somtimes love is just not about being 'right' but about feeling right... it's difficult to believe they could let go easily after all these mess if it was even still possible
(ps i'm a little pissed off as a reader that ian didn't cancel the ceremonie until the day of his marriage with trevor, again i feel so sorry for the last one, but as someone who never submits assignments until the last minute i can totally relate to ian's dread... -

They are naked. The sheets smell like their bodies, the detergent, the sun. Ian holds Mickey to him, cheek sliding against the stubble on his face, sliding to his collarbone, pressing in with his hands, pulling him tighter, feeling him rise. Their hands fall soft, slow. There is a quiet as they glide, practiced hands sliding here, there. There is no rush to this, no pull. There is only the sun sliding over them, revealing everything they are, everything they could be.
