Retrospection, Lan Zhan thinks once more, as shadows slink along their ceiling, slowly suffocating harsh fluorescent lights, and lick at Wei Ying’s hands.
“All this time.”
It’s not a question, but Wei Ying answers anyway. “Yes.”

Summary
Wei Wuxian slides to a stop in a small clearing, deeming this a good enough spot as any. Bracing himself with a wide stance, he flicks his tails as he lifts his snout to the sky.
And then he screams.
Just once, loud and long enough to wake his Lan Zhan up. Then Wei Wuxian begins to trot around the forest as he makes ‘wow wow wow’ calls. He knows it’s working when a shift in the air makes his fur stand on end as if the air is electric. He looks up to see the large, majestic swooping of Lan Zhan’s largest dragon form circling him high above. Anticipation zips through him and he yips in excitement.
OR
Wei Wuxian was away from home but he's home early and missed his Lan Zhan very much.

Summary
The flower disease isn't always fatal. The petal-crying variant, for example, is more often painful or embarrassing than deadly. Coughs can be suppressed with medicine. There’s not much to be done about the blood variant of the disease—that one’s nasty, as one would expect when someone has plant matter gunking up their veins—but meditation and regular qi infusions help tamp down symptoms of all kinds. Best-case scenario, the feelings, and the need to share them, fade in time, and then huzzah, problem solved.
…Or, the person processes their emotions and, instead of disgorging flowers, spews their secrets to the person who caused their ailment and thus returns to health pretty much instantly! (Or so people say, but that cure’s not very common. Wei Wuxian can’t imagine why.)

They’re a brighter orange than he was expecting, that’s the first thing he notices. Lan Zhan was vaguely concerned he might have difficulty actually seeing the mushrooms amongst the undergrowth, but that clearly won’t be a concern. He’d also worried that they wouldn’t find many, that they’d tromp over hill and dale for only a handful and waste their time, but this patch alone is enormous to his untrained eye. Dozens of bright orange ruffled mushrooms sprout up from the layer of fir needles covering the ground, occasionally lifting an entire fallen leaf with them in their enthusiasm to grow. It’s like being in a meadow planted with crocuses in early spring, except that it’s fall, and instead of flowers, it’s mushrooms.
“Like I said,” Wei Ying says, nudging his elbow against Lan Zhan’s. “They love it.”
Or: Five years after Wei Ying left, Lan Zhan accepts his invitation to go chanterelle foraging. They find more than they were expecting.

A-Qing didn’t expect to be alive again. She was perfectly content (in a manner of speaking) with the knowledge that her soul would move on after she finally managed to help someone defeat the man who had tormented her father for so long.
Wei Ying isn’t exactly surprised that he got revived for revenge purposes, considering his reputation back when he was alive. He is, however, surprised to be revived by two teenagers – one of whom is already dead.
