Summary
A couple months have passed since galactic adventurers Dib and Zim shut down a sadistic "Battle Zoo," barely escaping with their lives. They came away from the experience with some neat souvenirs, including but not limited to: physical scars, emotional trauma, and an archenemy who's determined to rebuild the fallen Irken Empire in her own vile image.
With that in mind, Zim plans to treat Dib to a day of R&R on a resort-like rainforest planet before they get back to business. Unfortunately, it's hard to relax when you're harboring secrets from each other, and it's only a matter of time before the truth comes out.

Summary
Zim is curled up on the bathroom floor, side pressed against the wall and one clawed hand digging into the skin above his eye. The other hangs limply at his side.
Dib sits a few feet away, knees tucked up under his chin. The human has developed the habit of bringing books along to read aloud for when they both inevitably end up bored, but he’s not reading them now, electing to keep an eye on Zim instead.
Or: Zim fucks around and accidentally gives himself chronic migraines.

Something about the way Gi-hun called him their dog, the way the accusation— of kneeling and obeying and begging for scraps— conjured unexpected imagery in his mind, the way Gi-hun spat the words at him, red-faced and wide-eyed, stoked a different type of flame inside him.
It took surprisingly little negotiation to get from there to here. Here is an unspoken understanding. A symbiosis. A need to understand, and a need to be understood. A need to see, and a need to be seen. A need to hurt, and a need to be hurt. And both knowing there could never be anyone else who could fill those needs for them.

One cruel thumb forces his mouth open and any thoughts quickly die in his mind. He feels his far-back teeth being revealed, the air drying his gums and rendering his syllables unintelligible.
“You placed your life in my hands when you decided to come back, 456.” It’s the first time that evening that he’s been called by his number. He feels like a mutt in a kennel, backed into a corner and terrified of inexorable chemical euthanization.
In a near-reverent manner, the man traces his thumb one-by-one over the ridges of his upper teeth, piercing it intently on a canine, like worshipping silently to a strand of prayer beads. Gi-hun tastes blood in his mouth and it tastes like a pact. “You are mine. And mine alone.”
In the moments following the death of Jung-bae, Gi-hun is taken into the Frontman's quarters. He feels like a specimen observed beneath fluorescent lights through microscopes; a deer stalked by a wolf. But he can do it right back.
This is the waltz between two men, equally curious and equally ready to kill. Gi-hun is willing to go to any lengths to disarm his adversary. Only— how far is too far?

“We’re both going to die anyway. Why not make death more comfortable?” He half taunts. Gi-hun doesn’t know what the other half is.
