Nunew had always thought meeting his soulmate would have more fanfare—like a scene in a movie where your eyes meet in slow motion as your heart lurches in your chest, rejoicing at finally meeting its other half.
But it’s not. There’s nothing different; the red string simply floats in the air as it always does. It’s surprisingly underwhelming.

“I like spending time with Hia,” Nunew says with no hesitation, tilting his head to the side after, “but will that trouble Hia?”
Zee smiles a little, thinks of someone who knows how he likes his coffee, someone with soft palms and a softer voice who greets him good morning, and hugs him when he gets home.
He helps Nunew off the bed, and says with all the warmth of morning coffees brewed before the sun rises, “I think I’ll be just fine.”
