“How many times do you want me to apologize?” he sighed, shoulders slumping as Deaton studied the runes etched into the old shackles.
Derek’s lips curled in a sneer, a growl vibrating low in his chest.
“I thought it would be funny!”
“You thought cuffing us together would be funny?”
And there it was—claws-out Derek in all his irritated glory.
“It was supposed to be you and Scott! You know, like a ‘get-along’ T-shirt. Only… cuffs.”
“And how is it,” Derek asked, yanking their joined wrists up between them, “that I ended up stuck with you?”
Stiles shifted, eyes darting away to the floor. “Scott was too fast—the lock clicked around my hand instead—look, you were there. Why do you keep making me repeat it?”
He cringed under Derek’s stare, shrinking in on himself.
“Because, Stiles,” Derek said, voice low and promising violence, “I want to make sure you’ve learned your idiotic lesson.”
Deaton straightened, expression pinched in that special brand of silent sympathy he reserved for hopeless situations. “Would you like the good news or the bad news?”
“The good news,” Stiles said just as Derek growled, “The bad news.”

"You know the rules, guys."
Stiles looks up, and sure enough there's a little sprig of plastic mistletoe fixed above the door, just like there has been every year since Stiles and Scott had decided that it would be awesome if their parents got together so they could be actual brothers, and mistletoe was a surefire method of making that happen. It hadn't worked, but the tradition had persisted.
He's already mentally making his excuses, but before he can voice any of them Derek is leaning in to brush his lips gently against Stiles', catching Stiles' bottom lip between his own in a brief but unmistakable kiss.
"Merry Christmas, Stiles," he murmurs, sliding past Stiles and striding off down the driveway, his hand raised in a wave goodbye in Scott's general direction.

He wasn’t dreaming, his arms were full of Stiles.

The sight of him is like whiplash.
Stiles and Derek have managed to keep up a reasonably active text-ship for the last few years (heavily due to Stiles’ undying persistence on the matter) but Derek’s recent inclination to jump around between continents paired with Stiles’ grueling school schedule has resulted in them not having been in the same room since Stiles left for Brown the summer after he graduated.
He’s broader. Taller. Hair buzzed short like it hasn’t been since he was a sophomore in high school, a scar nicked into the corner of his left eyebrow that Derek remembers hearing the story about (a frisky leprechaun with a bad sense of humor and a hard-on for blades.)
And when Stiles’ eyes catch sight of Derek across the room, his grin glitches into shock and he lets go of the door.
Which must be safety-weighted, considering the force with which it slams backwards against Scott.
