He didn’t have anyone back home to think on. Not really. He didn’t need to look back across the ocean to have someone to fight for, he just had to look forward at the man who was leading him. Summary
Daniel releases a breath before turning back to Max. The kid is pale, shaking like a leaf and staring past Daniel towards where his father just exited. “Max,” he goes to put a hand on his shoulder but decides against, letting the hand awkwardly fall back to his side. “Are you alright?”
“Why - why would you do that?” There's a heat behind the words Daniel hadn't been expecting.
“A thank you would suffice.” He can’t help but throw back. He’s not sure exactly what he had been expecting. Certainly not the kid to bow down and start praising his name. But he hadn’t been expecting hostility.
“Why would I- what did you do?” Panic is creeping in, and while Daniel would have expected it around the time that bright red handprint appeared on his face, now, when his father is actually gone?
