Denial, Jax remembers. He knows that one. It’s the first on the list, the one that clues people in that it’s developing grief in the first place. Not that he’s grieving. That was silly. And a straight up delusional take on his situation. He doesn’t grieve.
Cartoonish purple rabbits don’t grieve.
The dead can’t speak, the guilty don’t deserve to. Pomni has Thoughts™ and makes it Jax’s whole problem.

There was nothing they couldn’t do—no storm they couldn’t tame, no problem they couldn’t solve. The elders spoke of their deeds with reverent whispers and awed expressions.
They aren’t merely men, they used to say. They are gods who walk among men. They are pure, untouched from the horrors of our world, with a terrible, terrible power and responsibility. Respect them with all you have, and fear them with everything you hold dear.
If there was anything Katara learned from the legends and myths of her tribe, it was that the Avatar is a god.
And gods aren’t human.

Katara couldn’t remember the first time they had met; it seemed that he had always been there. Perhaps it was during the annual visit of the Air Nomads to the Southern Water Tribe for the Festival of Dancing Lights; perhaps it was during the weekly trade between their nations. Perhaps it was even as simple and innocuous as a trip Gyatso had made to her home—he and her parents were close friends, after all.
Whatever the case, Aang had become a part of her family, as surely as the sky was blue and the ocean ran deep.
He was her best friend, and she loved him.
But then everything changed the day they found he was the Avatar.
