Summary
Katara never really cared for the stories, but now, holding the Avatar’s heart in her hand, soaking herself in his blood, she wondered if anyone would notice if she made a few amendments.
First: The avatar is dead and everyone should run
Second: No one can save you
-
Alternatively: A role reversal AU wherein Katara and Sokka replace Zuko and Azula, respectively. A few changes are made, however. The largest being that the Avatar is dead. The next is that soon, all benders will meet the same fate, including the very one that killed him.

Summary
Left behind at the Misty Palms Oasis, Katara waits days for Aang, Sokka, and Toph to return. But when bounty hunters close in, her only chance at escape comes from the last people she ever thought she could trust: Zuko and Iroh.
Now traveling under false names, bound by a fake marriage, and with no room for mistakes, Katara finds herself on the road to Ba Sing Se. What begins as mutual distrust slowly turns into eating side by side, sleeping even closer, and something far more dangerous: comfort. She thinks it will end once they reach the city, but in a place crowded with millions of refugees, and stuck in the Lower Ring, she doesn’t have much hope of finding the others. With no leads and nowhere else to go, she resolves to wait for her friends to find her.
But in their cramped apartment, days turn into weeks, and Zuko and Katara begin to settle into something that almost feels like domestic bliss. It isn’t real. Or at least, it isn’t meant to be. But the longer they stay, the harder it becomes to remember where the act ends and something real begins.

Summary
“So who is Zuko, really?” Toph asks. “I thought he was just a regular Firebender who didn't like you very much. I didn't know his sister was favored by the Fire Lord.”
“His sister is definitely favored by the Fire Lord,” Sokka says irritably. “She was his guard during the Eclipse. And she's incredibly loyal, just like Zuko is. That is, was.”
“No wonder, with that name,” Katara mutters. “What else would you expect from siblings named after the Fire Prince and Princess?”
In which everything stays the same, apart from the fact that the Gaang doesn’t realize their local firebender is actually Prince Zuko until coronation day.

Summary
The gang is adjusting to life in Ba Sing Se when an unsuspected discovery lands them in custody of a surprisingly well-mannered Zuko (though his temper is a nasty thing). Exiled, powerless, and with a ridiculously large bounty on his head, Zuko has to decide how he's going to let the rest of his life play out. Trust grows gradually through trial and error, through war and laughter, and maybe just maybe through a belonging Zuko never imagined he'd feel again.
"If I am lost, light my path.
If I falter, temper my spirit.
Let my flame burn steady, not wild.
Let my fire bring warmth, not destruction.
Let me walk in balance, with honor of my own making."

Summary
Sokka isn't sure of his place. He has to protect his sister, that's his job, but what can he really do? She's a bender, he's not. Now a member of the Avatar's group, he feels less useful than usual. What can he contribute? Nothing. He's not a bender, his plan's are often written off.
Coincidentally, there's a certain enemy who also wants all the stress and responsibility to end.
And coincidentally, they come to the same conclusion: perhaps they'd fair better away from it all.

And in an instant, it had all come crashing down. Zhao had come back from the dead and, acting on her father's orders, stripped her of her command. Zuko has always despised these royal balls even before his banishment. Returning after three years feels like stepping into a world frozen in time, where nothing’s changed even though everything has. While Zuko tries to fade into the background, Azula shines like a diamond. Typical.
But when a seasoned general twice her age starts to get dangerously close, Zuko expects Azula to scorch him or threaten him or blackmail him at the very least. Instead, she just stands there and lets it happen. Something inside Zuko snaps and even though it’s against his better judgment, he can’t stop himself from stepping in.

Story: “Bad Idea, Right?” by Olivia Rodrigo
“Drink it,” he said, his voice lower now, more serious. “Marry me, and let’s run away from it all.”
Her head snapped up, her laughter spilling out before she could stop it. “That’s a bad idea, right?”
He nodded, his expression serious but his golden eyes gleaming with something wild. “It’s a bad idea.”
With a smile, she leaned towards him. “Fuck it, it’s fine.”
—
When Katara stumbles upon Zuko in Ba Sing Se, she’s determined to confront him. But what starts as a tense encounter in a tavern quickly spirals into an impulsive, drunken marriage—one that neither of them saw coming. Now, with the world on the brink of war and their fates tangled together, they must navigate the mess they’ve made. Maybe this “bad idea” is exactly what they need to change the course of the conflict… or maybe it’s just the beginning of something even more complicated.
