    They stayed at the inn that night. They were still a bit short on funds, but the idea of a working shower was too hard to resist, so they piled themselves into a single room with two large beds and started fighting over bathroom rights. Vincent stood by the window and watched as Tifa detangled Aerith's hair, nagged Yuffie about brushing her teeth, rubbed hand cream into Barret's single chapped hand, and called down to the front desk to complain about the dirty sheets.

    It had long become obvious to him that Tifa was the mothering one in the group. The others tried to return the favour, but chasing Sephiroth was a time-consuming task, and she sometimes escaped their notice. Something told him that Tifa preferred it that way, and that it was likely by design.

    He, however, noticed. He always noticed. She was always in the corner of his eye, and sometimes she was all that he could see.

    Two souls, full of survivor's guilt and misery, forge an unlikely bond whilst journeying to save the world.
