Steve has been doing his best to move on ever since the ground opened up to swallow Hawkins whole, and took with it his new flame, snuffed out before he ever had the chance to explore what Eddie Munson really meant to him. He believes he's coping with the loss, just like everyone else, but it's clear to everyone that isn't the case.
Eddie was dead, but not forgotten.
