She drags an unsteady hand across the stone where it meets the grass and tilts her head to the sky. Lily’s hair is a lightning storm, a dust cloud, a beacon even in the dark flood of the castle’s shadow.
Mary can’t stop herself from going to her. It’s an electric charge, and Mary loves the feeling of her hairs standing on end. A child with a balloon, rubbing her skin raw.
