Soon all the pies were rescued and lined up on the bakehouse table, the smell of freshly baked pastry mingling with the faint scent of blood which always lingered in the room. “Thanks,” she told Sweeney. “Would you help me bring these upstairs?”
He hesitated. “Must we do it right now?”
“Well,” she said, “we could let them cool—”
He was kissing her before she could finish her sentence, one hand cupping her cheek, the other digging into her back. He trailed his lips down her neck, pushing her towards the wall.
