“Nancy?” Robin tilted her head. “Why are you looking at me like that?”
Nancy stepped closer. Close enough that Robin’s back brushed the edge of the desk behind her. Then her hands fell to Robin's hips, keeping her in place,
“Robin Buckley,” Nancy deliberately tipped her head up so their gazes were locked, “I underestimated how catastrophically bad you're at social cues.”
Robin huffed. “Rude, I told you I was.”
“Look at me.”
Robin did. She always did when Nancy asked like that.
“We have been dating,” Nancy said slowly, enunciating every word, “for nearly six months.”

Robin slowly closed the distance between them again and added, “Not like this.”
Now Nancy could tell how playful Robin’s thoughtful tone was. “Like… how?” she wondered, walking into the obvious trap with her head held high.

“Holy shit,” Robin gasped again. She inhaled sharply, tightening the muscles of her stomach, pressed herself back to the wall as much as she could, and her hands left Nancy’s body to hover nervously between them. “Nancy, I know for a fact that this gun is loaded so…”
“I would never hurt you. You know that.”

Nancy doesn’t know how long they stand there, making out in the kitchen like a couple of horny teenagers (which, she supposes, they technically are—she’s not twenty until next year and Robin’s only just turned nineteen). It’s long enough for their kisses to turn desperate, for Robin’s lips to move from her mouth to her neck, nipping and biting just light enough to avoid leaving a mark, for her hands to move upwards under Nancy’s shirt, carefully tracing the bottom of her bra. Long enough for Nancy to weave her fingers into Robin’s hair, pulling her closer, for her free hand to travel to the waistband of Robin’s jeans, scratching gently over the skin just above it.
Long enough that Nancy’s senses are overwhelmed by Robin enough for them to miss the footsteps coming up the stairs.

It started with a flat tire.
Well, it started with a lot more than that. Three weeks ago, Nancy made the bullheaded decision to drop out of college. Drop out. Nancy Wheeler, everyone! College dropout. She buried her head in her arms, now wrapped around her knees, as she tried to figure out her next steps. She could walk to a local mechanic and see if she could buy one or have her vehicle towed- but that would take hours and she'd need to be driving into Indiana by nine to make it to graduation. Not coming up with any better ideas, though, she made her way to a pay phone to call a tow- which was just about down the road, her one mercy.
The pay phone… she could make a call.
Nancy wasn't the only girl in Massachusetts heading down to Hawkins Indiana.
or, Nancy and Robin go on a thirteen hour road trip and Nancy has a lot of realizations while Robin is just trying to catch up.

Before Robin can even open her mouth to question her, Nancy’s extracting herself from her embrace, grabbing her hand and tugging her towards the stairs. She marches ahead, Robin following, pushing past writhing teenagers with determined fury. That anger, that cold, icy selfish need to have Robin to herself has turned hot and molten in her stomach. It’s no longer quite as fiery, but it’s just as consuming, and as they reach the stairs, Nancy realises what it is she wants.
She’s proved that Robin is hers to Vickie. Now she wants to prove it to Robin, too.

Robin balked at that, mouth gaping and a laugh tearing from her chest almost maniacally. But Nancy remained steadfast. She made her sincerity quite clear as she set the bottle to the side and climbed forward so she sat upright, on bent knees and beckoning for Robin to do the same. Robin was never one to disobey Nancy Wheeler, and she dare not start now.
Mirroring Nancy, Robin leaned forward before she lost her nerve entirely. Gentle, soft, and quick, with the faintest smack of lips as she pulled back. Nancy’s eyes dragged open, and the corner of her mouth quirked upwards.
“What are we, twelve?” Nancy goaded her. “I said show me, Buckley.”

Their knees stayed pressed together, denim against denim, the small point of contact hotter than it had any right to be. Robin could taste the ghost of Coke every time Nancy breathed out, sweet and chemical and close enough that she could almost feel it on her own lips.
She hadn’t moved her hand from where it rested on the floor, palm up, fingers half curled. Nancy’s little finger had settled against hers sometime in the last minute, barely there, like an accident that neither of them had fixed.
Robin swallowed, but words climbed up her throat before she could think better of them, “I understand why all the boys in this city are crazy about you now.”

Summary
Mike Wheeler hated his sister's boyfriends. It wasn't complicated, it was moral principle.
Steve Harrington was a jock. A hair-product-using, car-polishing, dumb-smiling jerk. Mike was a nerd. By the rules of nature and comic book law, Mike was obligated to hate him.
Then came Jonathan. He had known him almost as long as he had known Will. Quiet. Awkward. Supposedly "nice". Except the Wheeler household had thin walls, and he had heard too many late-night muffled sobs over the phone.
Conclusion: Boyfriends = bad. Boyfriends = tears. Boyfriends = Mike Wheeler's sworn enemy.
So when Nancy starts to act happy and giddy, and Mike swears he heard her giggle over the phone. Nancy Wheeler. GIGGLE! He starts to get suspicious and recruits none other than the party to help him figure it out.
