Today wasn’t one of those days that Zemu accompanied first the moon, then the sun in its solitude. The big, mighty sun was still alone even in all its glory, but Zemu, however, was no longer.
“Mama, mama! Wake up!” The voice started as a blur against sleep, a distant sound trying to pull her back into the world. Slowly, it began to take form as it was becoming little feet, bouncing weight, and a shrill insistence that refused to fade away. “Mama, it’s June 29! It’s today! It’s Mama and Papa’s day!”

“Harder?” She echoes, her voice raising. “You’re not making anything harder for me…” She cuts herself off in frustration.
“You’re just acting weird!”
Aran lets out a quiet breath, not annoyed or defensive; he was just tired. “I don’t want to keep assuming that I still or will have that place in your life.”
First, Zemu’s mouth opens, open then it closes. “What place?”
Aran finally looks at her again, and for the first time, she hesitates. As someone she’s known all her life, this is an expression she hasn’t deciphered yet. It was not anger nor sadness, but something quieter, like he’d already decided something for both of them, but hated how he had to live with it.
“The one where I get to be the person you rely on, without having to think about it.”
Her fingers tighten around the bracelet as she tried to search for words to say (and failing at it.) “I still…” She starts off. “You are…” Then the slight flicker that she caught in his eyes was swiftly gone too.
“That’s what I thought too.”

For isn’t that the greatest miracle art can offer? To pick apart the world and leave bits of yourself in its crevices. To whisper, ‘This is how I saw the world. Can you see it, too?’ And like all of the greatest artists in history, Yukio’s always dreamed of creating something that can touch another person’s heart like that.
Her gaze drifts to the boy standing before her—Ryusei, who is her greatest muse.
If art is humanity’s love letter to itself, then perhaps her art will be her love letter to him.
Perhaps she can carve a space for herself in his world.
