He had saved Toby, but he lost Claire. He had tried again, saved Claire, but lost Blinky. Again and again he tried. He saved one person but lost another.
Strickler survived, but his mom got dragged under with the ice titan.

His mom survived, but Aarrrgghh was turned to stone.
Reset.
Aarrrgghh survived but Douxie hadn’t. Bellroc snapped his neck.
Jim could never forget the way he screamed.
Again and again he went back, tried to fix it, tried to save them all, but even if he saved most of them, one always died.
They died, and they died, until Jim lost track of how many times he’d gone back.
Now, he stood alone, surrounded by his friends’ dead bodies, facing off against the three demigods by himself with no armor, no amulet, no weapon.
“One. Last. Time.” He whispered and with a clench of his fist he was whizzed back in time.

The plan had seemed questionable enough at the time, but it seems exponentially worse now that Shiro is actually standing in a hotel room with his two coworkers, his best friend, his best friend’s little sister and her roommate, and—perhaps worst of all—his best friend’s PhD advisor, whose OCD has an uncanny way of setting off Shiro’s own anxiety.
This is going to be a long weekend.
