Summary
There’s noise on the other side of the door. A chair, screeching against wood floors. Then footsteps, stumbling closer. Someone comes marching in, eyes trained on Liam, and pushes him aside to turn the thing off with a swift flick of a switch.
Louis’ heart leaps into his throat.
He grips the duvet that’s been bunched up at the foot of the bed and yanks it up around himself. Maybe it’s too much movement too fast because he goes dizzy, black dots speckling his vision.
When Harry finally turns around, Louis thinks he’s about to pass out. What the fuck. What the fuck.
“We couldn’t go anywhere else,” Louis thinks he hears Liam say, beneath the current of his own blood rushing through his ears. “Louis? Lou?”---
When Liam finds Louis alone in a feral state outside his home, he can't bring him home for fear of Louis harming his own omega partner. He can't alert authorities or go to a shelter, as documented feral spells function like black spots on a persons record for the rest of their lives. In the end, he can only think of one possible safe location to bring Louis to; Harry's. But Louis and Harry haven't spoken in three years. Not since the night everything came crashing down between them.

It's natural for omegas to have family members present during the first couple of days of their heat while their alpha takes care of them. Having family present offers stability and grounding, keeping the omega from physically and mentally dropping from being touch starved until their heat really sets in.
After Purgatory, when Dean can't pretend he's a beta anymore, that proves to be the part that he has the most difficulty with.

Summary
He’s loud, Louis is, and that’s far from unusual for him, but the volume of it still has Harry pulling back the curtain. There’s a half-formed thought in the back of his brain about telling Louis off, because it’s fucking half three in the morning, but then.
But then Harry’s eyes get stuck on the soft glint of Louis’ stubble in the light, and he’s making his way across the room before he even realizes it.
Louis, for his part, just tips his chin up to give Harry space and keeps talking, waving the joint in his hand around for emphasis. He doesn’t even bother to greet Harry, going on with his story to his semi-rapt audience, just settles a hand in between Harry’s shoulder blades and pushes him down firmly.
Harry just. Relaxes. His eyes slip closed, pushing his entire face into that spot underneath Louis’ chin, where his hair is still growing, neat and prickly. The scent of Louis’ cologne drifts into Harry’s nose, light and fresh, and it’s calming. Comforting. His breathing syncs up with Louis’ quickly, and Harry feels so much better than he had five minutes ago he almost wants to cry.

Summary
Louis is on tour when he first hears about it. It’s all over the news – Harry Styles Attacked By Fan runs in headlines for days. It’s not even just the gossip rags, either. Actual journalists are covering the story. It would have been impossible to avoid hearing about it. Technically, Oli is the one who tells Louis about it, but it’s not exactly being covered up. Harry doesn’t answer Louis’ text asking if he’s alright, but that’s not really surprising. They haven’t spoken for months, and it’s been a lot longer than that since they’ve had a real conversation. The sting of the text going unanswered is still there, less painful than it might have been a few years ago.
It’s not that it’s easy to forget about, exactly. Louis has a whole life outside of One Direction now, though. So Louis goes on with his life, figuring that if Harry was seriously hurt he would have heard about it by now. He might currently be in the same country as Harry, but being on opposite sides of it puts enough distance between them that putting it in the back of his mind is easy. There’s nothing Louis could do, even if he thought Harry might want him to.
That’s why everything that happens next comes as a complete shock to him.

Harry stares at him with sad eyes, so Louis continues.

Louis and Harry's relationship has been rocky for a while. When Harry brings up the topic of a hiatus without talking to Louis first, arguments ensue, tears are shared, but in the end they make it work.

“Tell me why I should, and I will.”
Louis opened his mouth, two thin lips widening like he had something witty to say, but nothing came out. Instead, his cheeks reddened, and he blinked back emotion. Exactly as Harry thought: no answer.

OR: Harry just took over as Pack Alpha and needs a scenting partner to prevent going feral. When he goes looking, he stumbles upon a long lost pack member: Louis.
