Summary
Shane Hollander was the number one draft pick and is now captain of the Boston Raiders. Ilya Rozanov quit hockey after his mother died and now owns a bookshop in Boston. When Shane moves into a new apartment down the street from One Good Memory, he finds more than just a convenient place to grab a new book.
Or...Shane is lonely and closeted and reads a lot; Ilya is charmed and quotes books at him.

Summary
Given Ilya and Shane's history, they should be able to handle a few weeks apart. So when Ilya was out with an injury and Shane needed to head back on the road, they would cope. Shane would be occupied with adjusting to his new team and Ilya would be occupied with twitter and the trials and tribulations of British Bakers.
And they would be just so normal about it. Obviously.

Summary
Shane wished that he and Ilya had woken up that morning in Saskatchewan in 2008. Before anyone knew who they were. Before they became numbers instead of men. Shane would have kissed him against the rusted sheet metal and the No Smoking sign. He wouldn't have wasted any moment in any timeline. He'd go back again and again, kiss him and beg for forgiveness. And when he had been through every possible iteration, he would find a way to go back, fall to Ilya's feet and beg for forgiveness one more time. Then he would look into a mirror and try to ask for his own. But he hadn’t. And they couldn’t. This was the hand they had been dealt.
Or: It's January, 2019 and Shane Hollander can see that the world's view of Rozanov is slowly killing the real Ilya. Roger Crowell orders them to be quiet and capitalise off the attention using Shane's golden image, which fans think is being ruined by association. Shane decides there is no better way to free Ilya now than to simply become the biggest PR nightmare the MLH has ever faced. Shane thinks it might even be fun.

Summary
Rough palms slip past his coat, under his sweatshirt, to his skin. “So it’s not serious then? Your upper body injury.”
Shane almost laughs. “I don’t know.” He almost cries.
A hand slides up towards his chest. “Hollander—”
“Stop.”
He holds on to Rozanov’s wrists even as they pull away.
“Did I hurt you?”
“No,” but the cardiac monitor would’ve been palpable under his skin.
Canon-compliant through the CCM commercial shoot, then sharply diverges in September 2010, when Shane suffers a cardiac event during training camp that forces his medical retirement before he ever plays a single game with Montreal. Without his playing career, Shane goes to college, finds his way back to hockey as an aspiring coach, and somehow, even without the heat of rivalry, finds his way to Ilya, too.
