Summary
In room 1410, Ilya Rozanov is ready to walk out the door after successfully getting his 19 year old hockey rival into bed. He knew how to make this moment happen and he knows what they have to be to each other now that it's over. But as he turns the doorknob to leave, he's stopped with questions he never expected. And giving Shane Hollander what he needs in that moment will change everything.
Author's notes: I’m autistic and see a lot of myself in Shane Hollander. So I thought, in this situation, what if he did exactly what I did the first time I hooked up with someone and didn’t know what the protocol was after it was over, what the next steps were, how to be like everyone else in a moment that felt amazing and confusing at the same time. What if he just asked?
Canon divergent from the first hookup seen in HR s01ep01. Some things are from the show - aged up Marleau and Hunter, mainly - but the timeline is a mix of both. (Notably, they don't wait *two years*, they stick to the book timeline. IYKYK.) Some tags are for later chapters. “I just mean…” Shane’s face was serious; his eyes were doing that puppy-dog thing that Ilya couldn’t resist, where they looked earnest and soft and serious all at once. "What if we didn’t wait to come out? Rather than waiting until we retire. Maybe, I don’t know, stopped hiding quite so much and just… let people figure it out, eventually.”

Summary
Shane is in a post-game interview when his world stops.
He’s just answered a question about Montreal’s offensive strategy going into the game. Clean passes, avoid penalties, draw defenders wide. It had worked and the Voyagers had beat Colorado soundly, 4-1. Shane had scored two of the goals and assisted on a third.
Usually, Shane would be eager to boast about the win to Ilya. But ever since their fight- since Ilya told Shane to leave- winning feels hollow. Losing feels better, somehow. As if Shane deserves to lose after being so selfish. Ilya gave up everything for him- his home, his team, and to some extent- his happiness. Hockey. Ilya gave up hockey- good hockey- for Shane.
A ripple goes through the room of reporters. Shane swears he hears the word ‘Ottawa’ and ‘crash’. But no one is paying attention to him anymore.
“What’s going on?” he asks into the microphone, feeling strange at the role reversal. Usually, he’s the one being asked questions.
No one answers. And this time he knows that he hears the word ‘Ottawa’ and ‘Centaurs’.

Shane rushes to Ilya after the almost plane crash. Their secret is no longer a secret.
