They’d talked about it once, left it hanging in the air and swimming through Luke’s mind for weeks. He took cold showers and felt himself reflexively clenching his jaw when Michael draped his arm over Ashton’s shoulders, grin on the freshly blonde colored haired boys face. He lets Ashton fuck him against the wall, let him tug at his hair and mark up his neck, all the while thick memories of Michael’s body flush against Ashton’s, creating movements that had Luke arching off of the kitchen table, shudders wracking his body. He wanted it all, wanted to be part of the reason Ashton had sobs wracking his body, wanted to be the reason he came, and screamed out, wanted to be inside of the oldest boy, to feel the thickness of Michael alongside himself leaving Ashton a puddle of a being.

“I’ve always wanted to be in a band,” Luke admitted after a beat, looking down at his maths homework and smoothing out the edges of his paper. Michael was playing semi-viciously, jabbing at the keys. “No one’s ever wanted to, though.”
“Being in a band would be awesome,” Calum said, stretching. “Mikey and I both play guitar.”
“Me too,” Luke admitted. “Think you knew that, though.” Michael finally closed his game, looking up and offering Luke the first genuine smile Luke had seen from him so far.
“Cal and I talked about bands, but you can’t do much with two people.”
“We should be a band,” Calum said definitively. “This is a thing. We’re a band now.”
Luke’s smile was bigger now. “We’re a band now,” he echoed. When he returned to his maths homework, he was outright beaming.Or, the story of how 5 Seconds of Summer became a band (starting from the beginning) and how Michael Clifford realized he’d always been in love with Calum Hood (not starting from the beginning, not even close), and how taking on the world turned out to be less daunting than it seemed.

The familiar smell, sweaty equipment and rubber flooring and Zamboni fluid. Luke’s taken to closing his eyes sometimes, cutting off his primary sense, and just absorbing the noise and the scent and the feel of cool air on his cheeks. That way, regardless of where he is, an arena still feels like home.
