Summary
Hisoka is back, returning to his pro tennis career after a year and a half of being banned from tournaments. He comes back expecting the same old tour and the same old players. He gets a lot more than he bargained for when his estranged fiancé Illumi Zoldyck turns up to play, too.
The Zoldyck family are falling apart. Gon Freecs is trying to persuade everyone that a doubles career with his boyfriend Killua is right for him. Kurapika is wondering when the hell Hisoka became his best friend. Leorio is just here for the prize money.
Can Illumi escape his family for good? And who the hell is going to win this tournament, anyway?

“A toy,” he says, his eyes shining with something close to reverence, like a man who had just met God. “I thought that was what he was, didn't I?”
He looks upward, as though hoping the real Illumi might answer him, give him a sign, anything to tell him where to go from here.
“I thought he was a toy, like all the others. Something I could take down from the shelf whenever our paths happened to cross. Like a child opening a toy chest and pulling out a doll he hadn't touched in months.” A small laugh escapes him, empty and humorless. “I thought I could play with him whenever I pleased. I could be rough with him because it didn't matter if I broke him. That was the whole point, wasn't it? How exciting it sounded... to toy with a Zoldyck until he was broken beyond repair.”
His gaze lowers again, settling on the entity before him.
“But it became... strange.” He speaks more quietly now, almost to himself. “He wasn't breaking the way I'd hoped he would."
-Or, after dying, Hisoka is forced to confront his past and his fears so he can find his way back to Illumi. -

Six years into their marriage and Illumi can still reduce him to this. After three weeks apart, Hisoka is unable to focus on anything but his husband’s return, just as starved for him as he was at the beginning.
When Illumi is finally on his way home, Hisoka prepares a proper welcome, and a little performance to go with it.
