Broom closets were pretty practical (if you ignored all the build-up of years worth of dust): they were good for storage, plentiful around Hogwarts, and quite possibly the only areas in that castle not holding an oddly sentient judgmental painting or ghost to provide ill-timed commentary.

Summary
Regulus Black is supposed to spend the season trying to find a bride. However, he gets rather sidetracked when James Potter sweeps into the ballroom, full of arrogance and promptly vexing Regulus.
Sirius Black has no plans for the season but to try to annoy his mother as much as possible. Everything changes, though, when his school friend Remus Lupin returns to the ton, hoping to try and fix his and Sirius's friendship after a kiss that ruined everything.
Both drama and love during London's season are a given, though neither Regulus nor Sirius expected to experience either. As the season goes on, Regulus finds himself strangely drawn to James Potter, despite claiming to hate him. Meanwhile, Sirius finds himself doing everything in his power to not mess up his relationship with Remus Lupin again.

He wasn’t sure that she’d ever feel comfortable saying it, and that was fine with him. However, it perplexed his friends, and their faces told him as much.
Samirah almost looked annoyed, “You’re just going to shrug? Magnus, you two might spend centuries together, and the fact that Alex may never express that to you doesn’t…” she stopped herself.
“Bother me?”
A honey bee had landed on a scone at the center of their table. The light caught its fuzzy coat as it flew away, probably to a less stale scone.
They all looked at him. Magnus met their faces with a soft smile, “It doesn’t, because I love her.”

It was a habit of hers, to recount tales from her travels as if they were parables. Her voice was low and melodic, carrying the rhythm of the sea. She sat cross-legged on the floor, close to the lamplight, and as she gestured with her hands, Kaz caught sight of them.
The words left her mouth, but his attention had fixed elsewhere. Her hands—slender, deft, strong—were lined with fresh cuts, faint bruises, and roughened skin that hadn’t been there before.
“Those,” he said quietly, interrupting her.
Inej followed his gaze, blinked, then smiled ruefully. “Occupational hazards.”
Kaz’s brow furrowed. “You call this an occupation?”
“I call it a life,” she replied simply.
He stepped closer before he could stop himself, the movement deliberate but unhurried. The air between them thickened. Inej stilled, her eyes lifting to meet his.
Without a word, he reached out. His gloved fingers brushed hers, then carefully enclosed her hand.

Inej returns to Ketterdam with fresh wounds and newly settled battle scars. Kaz finds that the idea of her getting injured at sea, where he cannot be, does not sit well in him.

“The one and only.” Inej kicked the back of Jesper’s chair with her boot.
“Inej Ghafa?”
“Here.” Her voice was so quiet that Nina wasn’t sure that the teacher had heard until she checked off the name.
“Matthias Helvar?”
“Here.”
“Wylan Van Eck?”
“Present.” Nina heard Jesper snickering.
“… And lastly, Nina Zenik?”
“Here,” Nina answered politely.
The teacher organized her papers into a neat pile. “Very well. We’re all here. Looks like we can start.”or, a self-indulgent six of crows oneshot, high school detention style.
