A gap year never hurt anybody but it sure did leave him with a couple of emotional wounds. Especially one where he was deprived of his friends. When he’s moving in, he sees Eddie- his neighbor- and immediately wants nothing more than to make him his boyfriend. That is, until he finds out Eddie is in love with another. And his nickname is “Bull.”
How will Richie ever measure up to whoever this perfect person is? -

Just then, Eddie rushed in. "I just kissed Lindsay Bruman!" he announces. After catching his breath, he races back up the ladder, leaving everyone stunned but still cheering after him with whoops and hollers.
Richie accepted then and there that he was probably never going to fall in love.

Summary
The more and more Richie thought about his failed relationship with Eddie Kaspbrak, the more upset he felt. Also angry. Not a single day goes by where he doesn’t beat himself up for thinking that he would be with Eddie for the rest of his life.
Richie supposed that Eddie said it best when they broke up, “We’re highschool sweethearts. Nothing more.”

Summary
He touches his split lip, his shoulders tucked in on themselves. He’s always been small, but tonight, with black blood pouring down the front of his brightly-colored track and field suit and his shoulders hunched up like this, he looks impossibly smaller. He pulls his hand away from his mouth, and when he sees the blood on his middle three fingers, he grins.
Adrenaline was a foreign feeling up until ’89, when he was thirteen, and thirteen is a pivotal point in everyone’s life (right?), but it’s taken one, two, three, almost five years to get to the point where he can eat the adrenaline and turn it into something productive. Blood is impatient; it pushes itself out between his teeth, determined to be noticed, to be taken care of. But he’s not the one looking at the smile cracked across his face, blood red like a clown who got a little too excited about facepaint.

Summary
// you're the only friend I need
sharing beds like little kids
laughing 'til our ribs get tough
but that will never be enough //
---
Almost every time the lights turn off and they cram in the shitty twin bed, Richie seems to become a different person. Maybe not different, per say, but the stupid jokes and teasing die down, the guard of nonchalance dropping. Eddie feels lucky to see this side of Richie, soft and caring—vulnerable. It’s not like he hates the other side of Richie, he secretly enjoys their constant banter and his dumb jokes. No, it’s that this side is rare, and it’s something beautiful. Here, safe in the soft flannel sheets, it feels like they are the only two souls for miles, and they can be themselves, and that is terrifying and reassuring all at once.
“I’m gonna miss this. When we go off to college,” Richie admits, the weight behind his words telling Eddie he felt the same about their shared nights.
“Yeah,” Eddie agrees softly, “me too.”Bookmarked by boop4loopa

Summary
"I seriously think you need to get your head checked," Eddie finally responded, and somehow Richie could tell he was smiling, "-Were you fucking dropped as a baby? Multiple times?"
"As much as I would love to answer your question, Spaghetti," Richie responded, in a prim proper voice, "-I am not at liberty to know. You see, dear Eduardo, when I was mayhaps dropped, I would've been a baby-"
"Eduardo?" Eddie commented, and Richie could nearly see him scrunch up his nose in disgust.
"First you say, don't call me Eddie dickweed," Richie lists off, "-then you say that's not my name, I don't like it, they're stupid-"
"They are stupid, dickweed," he replied, "-but I like them. For some weird fucking reason."
Richie felt his heart flutter in his chest, before asking, "How does that make sense?"
"You're stupid," Eddie added -a little too nonchalantly, "-and I like you."

Summary
“Do you wanna practice?” he asks, slowly, weighing each word carefully before it leaves his mouth (though perhaps not as carefully as he should).
Richie shrugs again. “It’d be nice.”
Eddie stares at him for what seems to be a very, very long time -- stares at his vibrant eyes behind his crooked glasses and the faint dark patches on his cheeks and jaw where he needs to shave, his lips that he keeps wetting with his tongue, and some deep-down, too-clever part of him is aware of the opportunity presented to him and what can be gained from it, but mostly he’s thinking, one day I might be in a relationship, and when that person wants to kiss me -- or more -- I want to be prepared. So he finally swallows down his qualms and asks, “Do you wanna practice… together?”

In which Richie and Eddie both confess to the same two things at the same time and come to one realization: if they're both gay and they both have no sexual experience, they could always just learn with each other, right?
