And with time and age, poverty and excitement were traded for comfort and monotony. His farm thrived; there was food on his table, friends in taverns, and townsfolk more than willing to buy his wares - life was good. Life was secure.
Life was also dreadfully, mind-numbingly boring. The days blurred into one, each one like the next which was like the next and the next. Even the nights he spent drinking with friends - an activity that he had once waited in giddy anticipation for - had devolved into a simple, unchanging routine.
Which must be, then, why Hermes was so willing to go through with the first ridiculously ill-advised idea that popped into his head, all in an effort to combat his increasing boredom.

Summary
It's hard being an android out in the cruel and uncaring thermonuclear ravaged wasteland, on the run from your creators and trying not to raise suspicion from the locals to your synthetic nature. The only thing that makes it harder for Hermes is all the ways the cold ferryman's steely gaze makes his knees weak and his processors overheat for some reason. He has to ignore it, though, as between courier work and someone from Hermes' past blowing in to town, he's got a few other things to worry about besides a feeling that is definitely, certainly, absolutely not love.

In an attempt to get away from his father and start a life of his own, Hermes lands a job at the rundown antique store run by the town's recluse, Charon.
At first, they both believe it will be easy, if a little awkward. But the longer they work together and the closer they become, the harder it becomes to ignore the feelings whispering in the back of their minds.
