Summary
Earth was blurry.
Memories are vivid, but scattered. They’re like shards of painted glass that couldn’t quite form a picture. Like a handful of puzzle pieces that were all different shapes, those of which a few could fit together reasonably, but the others… not so much. And that wasn’t even mentioning the rest of the box, which might as well be tossed into an ocean somewhere with a land-mine taped on it.
She remembers a time before the gentle coolness of oil down her throat. She remembers a time before life-blood became the basis of her temperature management. She remembers being shorter, smaller, and the sensation of glasses frames perched in front of her visor.
V knows she wasn’t always a disassembly drone.
Because V remembers the mansion.

Summary
Cooped up on Mothership N2 for most of her life, Uzi Doorman's hobbies include having daddy issues and wreaking havoc. At the young age of fifty, she's invited to her local government-sanctioned school for drones known as DAIS (Drone Academy in Space). She leaps at the chance to get away from Dad Doorman and finally do her own thing.
A couple problems come into play: N and V are students too, except V and Uzi hate each other right off! I wonder why. The three of them plus Lizzy are crammed into a two-person dorm room, since their assigned DAIS substation is only half-finished. And what's going on inside the secret labs? And don't you think Professa is acting kinda weird...?

One cannot define grief as a solid entity; It shifts and changes like the tide, rising and falling, waxing and waning. Its unexpectedness rips off a layer of one's life like a band-aid, and an exposed underbelly is never pretty. J is no exception.
