Summary
A mysterious, stubborn virus infiltrates Caine's systems, forcing him to utilize some rather desperate measures in a reckless attempt to keep the circus, and himself, online. He attempts to fix it, ends up somewhat successful, and pretends like everything is fine as a result. See? He's not dying! He can handle this just fine on his own. He didn't need Kinger, or anyone for that matter, rummaging around in his delicate code.
That is, until he wakes up one day covered in digital blood, surrounded by the mutilated bodies of his favorite humans.

However, the freelance journalism got popular as soon as he joined the ranks of fellow reporters, and he swiftly returned to the role he held for the most part of his life. The Disappointment. Despite the good writing, despite the better than average degree classifications, he still ended up being barely able to survive on the income that he managed to earn. Gary should have considered a change of career a good time ago.
