It was a weird feeling, to have your soul reluctantly inch back into your own body.
Dave never liked the experience, but what he hated even more was the sickly aftermath. He always felt gross, shivery, and cold when he eventually came back to life. Because, like two very reluctant and irritated magnets, his body and soul always became one again. Not without their ill effects, though. Every time it happened, the only energy Dave could ever muster up was spent lazing around in misery. Cold, shaky, tired— Yeah, he didn’t like dying.

Every time Dave dies and his soul reenters his body, he feels sick and shivery for a while. At least he has his Old Sport to fuss over him, who's pissed and more than a little worried.

And before Jack could even get a word in edgewise, Steven rattled off, “You’re always talking to yourself, the kids don’t like your attitude, and you don’t even know our token to dollar exchange rate.”
Jack didn’t see his point. “So?”
Steven did not dignify him with a response. “His name’s Dave. Dave Miller. And he’s coming in later today, so be nice.”

Summary
Jack Kennedy, after the tragic event that was his parents’ death, is forced to reside in an orphanage until Peter becomes qualified to adopt him again. A strange building with even stranger people causes Jack to become repulsed, but a strange purple boy catches his eye almost immediately. But, maybe that’s just because he’s purple.
