Summary
He looks at Dazai, who looks steadily back at him, lips slightly parted. And Chuuya feels it all at once, the sharp edge of emotion cutting them both up, ripping the threads they’d worked so hard to wrap around the jagged fragments of their history, the only intact one of trust. It’s him, pushing away his humanity in exchange for power he’d learnt to accept. It’s Dazai, so determined in finding a reason to live, pretending he didn’t care about who he hurt until it was too late. It’s them, walking away together, arguing together, winning- together.

Why couldn't I just ask him to stay?
He wished he'd begged. He wished he'd dropped to the floor and gasped out how much he truly needed Chuuya, how Chuuya permeated his bones, his body, his brain down to his fucking genetic code. He wished he'd coughed up the blood of his exhaustingly dire want for Chuuya, how excruciatingly right it felt to want Chuuya and how painfully wrong it was for Chuuya to want Dazai, too.-
Or, Dazai breaks like glass in Chuuya's absence.
