Summary
There's no fantasy like being able to pause time and catch your breath. Kravitz would do anything for a break, and finds himself making a deal with Taako, a suspicious person that pauses time for him so he can finally rest and catch up on his hobbies. But Kravitz isn't alone for long, and ends up taking cooking lessons from Taako that lead to something else entirely. And then this fantasy gets a lot more fantastical...
Check the tags. Presented in two parts. The main story is the first chapter, and the second, which we will call the "tentacle supplemental", which is not required to read, but was a blast to write.

Private Investigator-- rather, "magician"--Kravitz thinks he has this Wonderland Arcade and Funhouse mystery in the bag, until three clowns blow up his spot and try to have beef with him. Magnus, Merle, and Taako have ulterior motives too, and they become tenuous allies on the way to uncover something a little more sinister. And if Kravitz starts to fall for Taako along the way, that's his business, isn't it? They don't have time for that! He can't leave the whole mystery up to Angus!

Okay, so Kravitz knows he shouldn't let the cute professor from the philosophy department(?) into the Arcane History Restricted Archives, but counterpoint, he just left his badge in the car, and he's very cute and funny, and what harm could it possibly do? What his mean boss doesn't know can't hurt him.
Taako is definitely not supposed to be here, but it's fine. The rules certainly don't matter when lives are on the line. And he's not about to get distracted.

Kravitz has been meaning for several months to talk to him. Ideally he’d ask him out, but no. That’s too much too soon. He just wants to talk to Taako once or twice, maybe even be friends. Taako’s intimidating, though. He’s not popular, not in the way his sister is. There aren’t many people he hangs out with, but he’s at every party. He’s so cool, in what seems like an effortless way. Not like Kravitz. Kravitz is in marching band and auditions for every play only to get cast as a background character. He’s in a shitty band with his two best friends. They’re called The Three Coffins. He doesn’t get invited to parties.

Kravitz has seen some shit. He's a paranormal investigator, a small but vital part of a larger organization. He specializes in ghosts, but he's seen a lot of different monsters.
He's seen some shit, yes, but the pond creature of Satapaki Forest takes the cake.
Literally, actually. The beast in front of him is sitting cross-legged in the shallows of its pond, petulant, its myriad tendrils wrapped protectively around dozens of stolen pastries. Kravitz sighs.It's surprisingly easy to fall in love with a monster.

Summary
Taako and Lup have devised a plan to get back at their shitty family for the way they had treated them as children, as well as put an end to the incoming letters now that the twins have gained a little bit of notoriety. They're going to go back home for Candlenights, and it's going to be the worst Candlenights anyone there has ever had.
Lup's bringing Barry, because nothing's better than showing up with a respectable looking dude only for said dude to start pulling out the formaldehyde pig brains. Taako needs something like that too.
So, why not ask the cute guy in his drama class who does bad accents when he gets nervous if he's free over break?
