The burning in Jay’s face is enough to make him itchy. He can’t identify the emotion behind it. It’s indignation and it’s mortification and it’s a new word ending in -ation no one has ever felt in history before called ‘Matt is talking about having a shitty girlfriend and that’s me’. He keeps his tight fists at his sides and his jaw clenched and Matt holds his gaze but he breathes like Jay just sent him for a race. And maybe Jay wants a race now.
It's 2008. Matt's a little bit drunk. Jay's a little bit high.

Summary
Through everything, there's an overlay of I want to take his hand, that's so stupid. It's dark here, he could kiss me and nobody would have to know. Is he rough with himself – would he be rough with me? Could he be loud for me? Could I shut him up? It makes Jay feel like looseleaf paper falling out of the sheaf, mixed up with no context, can't figure out where anything gets put back.

"I haven't thought about it," Jay says in defense against some claim that Matt has not made, and the pinkish flush is a violent scarlet now. "Before just now, when you said I was sexist. But I'm proving—I'm not sexist. I would say a guy would give good blowjobs."
"You'd say I specifically would give good blowjobs," Matt says, finding his voice.
"Only so that you'd know I'm not sexist!" Jay says. There's an air of desperation to his voice now.
