Maya finds Derek in the parking lot of a shitty motel somewhere in Missouri. There’s blood dripping down to their feet, soaking through her nice top and favorite jeans, and the skin around his mouth, his lips, his teeth, are stained scarlet. It should be unbecoming. He makes it look artful. He looks just like he did in her dreams.
He’s older now, they both are—funny how time works like that. Derek has grown out his beard, it suits him. Maya marvels at how he looks remarkably boyish in front of her. He still looks like a man who’s grown into his skin all wrongly, like he’s aching to peel it off his bones, strip it with his claws until he’s only flesh and meat. Maya wants him to carve her body into his. It feels like no time has passed at all.

Summary
Wei Wuxian grits his teeth, knowing he has no other choice. Not if it means Lan Zhan’s life. Besides, the Cloud Recesses has the best library and a long history of dealing with curses. It’s the most logical choice, even if he’d like to punch logic in the face right now.
“Wei Ying?” Lan Zhan asks.
He gives him a grim smile. “Looks like you’re finally getting your wish, Lan Zhan.”
Lan Zhan stares back at him, expression blank.
“I’m coming to Gusu with you.”
Or: Lan Wangji gets hit with a curse that requires Wei Wuxian to stay in close proximity at all times. Everything only gets more complicated from there.
