Summary
Jensen spent twenty two years in the military; Jared graduated from college early and hit the ground running as a successful engineer. They meet under dire circumstances when Jared is threatened and almost killed. Jensen saves his life and finds he isn't able to let the stranger go until he finds out who tried to kill him and why.
As he spends more time with Jared, Jensen becomes more protective and drawn to the younger man. Through Jared's recovery, they learn more about one another, and fall in love. They are faced with challenges to Jared's safety and plowing their way through a difficult legal case. Jared will be attacked and hurt, but Jensen's skills will come to the rescue. They will wind up in a loving, affectionate, committed relationship by the end of things.
This story is filled with hurt/comfort, angst, emotional hurts and situations from the past, and sex. Jensen will rescue Jared a couple times and there will be some corporate bashing and military situations.

Written from an amazing prompt on Facebook by dcjuris.
I have played fast and loose with the canon timeline. In this world, Sam was an omega and John sold him, ashamed of Sam's status. Since John never died and Sam wasn't around, most of what happened in the show wouldn't have, though you can assume as much happened with John instead of Sam as was feasible. I rearranged things as I needed, and I used what I needed to, sometimes in different ways than in canon, though I kept the characters as canonly in character as possible.
I'm slotting them back into canon in Season 8. Time wise, they should be in Season 9, but there's no way to bring them into that season midstream, so just be aware of the time shift. :D

Keep your head down. Work hard. Never wear a hat in the wheelhouse or your luck will take a nosedive. This is the rookie advice that Jared gets in his first few days as a deckhand on board an Alaskan crabbing boat, in between catnaps and ice storms, twenty-foot seas and more near misses than he really wants to count. He also learns early mornings followed by late nights aren't enough to kill a person, but ten minutes in below freezing waters might be, and that the biggest favor he can do for himself is to try and stay on the captain's good side.
Jensen rose quickly through the ranks to become one of the youngest captains the fleet has ever seen, but he has been around long enough to know that no one ever gets through a season without a few battle scars. It's Jared's quick wit, sarcastic mouth, and a particular sort of point-of-no-return look about him that makes Jensen hire Jared on a whim, reminds Jensen a little of himself fifteen years ago. There's nothing better than watching the morning break over the bow of the ship - Jensen just needs to keep Jared alive and well long enough for the kid to figure that out for himself.
