It wasn't his habit to pry into Ed's business. Mostly because he'd long known, deep down, that Ed wasn't faithful. What point would there have been, digging into things when he already knew he wouldn't like the answer? It wasn't as if he planned on leaving Ed either way. At least there was some comfort in being able to pretend he didn't notice.
