“Stop!” he cries, chuckling, and he reaches out to grab her wrists and pin them to her sides.
Lucy looks up at him, meeting his eyes, and they’re both breathing heavily. She’s smiling in a way that tears down all of his defenses, and he’s so fucking in love with her that his chest hurts and he can’t breathe.
“Lucy,” he says, and his voice is hoarse, needy and full of the affection he’s worked so hard to deny.
“Tim,” she gasps, and her eyes flicker to his lips, then back up to his eyes, and her pupils dilate as she pulls a stuttering breath in.
He should let her go. He knows he should let her go.
He has to let her go.

It only happens at her place
It doesn’t happen in their vehicles, or as Tim calls her car “the death trap.” It sure as hell doesn’t happen in the station, and it doesn’t happen in any place they could get caught. It’s forbidden enough already; with her only being his boot for four and a half months and still in long sleeves for who knows how long.
Out of anything they’re doing intimacy-wise, this is the most innocent thing they could do because it’s not intimacy, not direct intimacy anyway.
That’s what they keep telling themselves. Despite the way they’re doing this, it’s moments of pleasure and that’s it. It doesn’t get brought up on shift, their relationship on shift doesn’t change. He’s still an asshole, and she’s still an over-eager rookie who wants the approval of those around her.

When he mentions needing a sign that he needed to go for it, he didn’t mean Sanford standing in front of him and asking for help looking at engagement rings. Ten seconds into the conversation he’s already done when the lawyer starts his spiel with “you’ve been married before, right? So you probably have more experience in this than I do.”
Tim attempts to remain cordial. “It’s been a good fifteen years since I proposed. You’re really thinking about proposing to her?” He asks, leaning back in his chair to feign curiosity. In actuality, he was attempting to plan the quickest way to get rid of him as soon as possible. “Why come to me?” He adds on.
