“Gosh,” Adrien says after they’ve managed to get into their seats (Adrien is at the window - just as well, she would’ve definitely thrown up at a window seat - she’s in the middle seat), “how long has it been?”
“Since a little after we graduated?” Marinette asks, as if she doesn’t remember the exact date and time and situation (a winter chill that burned, a sunset that felt a little too much like goodbye).
“Ah,” Adrien says, and something quiet happens in his spearmint-pine eyes, but he brushes over it with a smile. “It must’ve been, huh?"

Summary
She's been angry for years. She had it all planned out, what she would say when she finally ran into him. It would have been better if he remembered her.
After a whirlwind romance in college, Marinette and Adrien are forced apart for seven years. Upon their reunion, they find themselves strangers again, and Gabriel will do whatever it takes to keep them that way. For Marinette, it's a battle between following her heart and protecting her family, while Adrien isn't aware there's a battle at all.
Loosely inspired by the Taiwanese drama, Autumn's Concerto (googling that will give you spoilers, though). Written for National Novel Writing Month 2022.
This version will be identical to the E-rated one, except without any sexual content or strong language. Rated for descriptions of injuries, heavy makeouts, etc.

“It… It was only just a kiss... right?”
She took a step towards him and he kept looking at her, like a lost little puppy. Like a lost little nervous puppy. A lost, nervous, cute as hell puppy that she was so, so mad at right now.
She felt rationale leave her brain as she took in the sight of him. She grabbed him by his scarf and pulled him down and planted a kiss on his lips. A single, chaste, but firm kiss. She drew back, glare intact, as she looked into his startled, forest green eyes.
“It was only just a kiss , Adrien,” she said, almost mockingly, her hands still bunching his scarf tightly. “Right? A kiss between just friends.”
He leaned into her for a second, deeper kiss.
( In which it started with only a kiss under the mistetoe between "friends", and they both struggle to grapple with the aftermath of it, while trying not to put their friendship on the line. )

He had said his feelings for her were complicated. They didn’t seem so “complicated” now as he watched her dance with someone that was not him. His arm wrapped around her waist, her laugh genuine and a tint of pink to her cheeks as her eyes sparkled. All he wanted to do was cut in, and ask for a dance but he knew that wouldn’t bode well; especially not with the way Alya was looking at him almost challengingly.
“Can I be horribly selfish for a moment?” he asked, hand tightening around her waist.
Her face flushed, and he knew she noticed. Her voice was steady though. “Of course. We’re friends.”He suppressed the urge to wince. “I… Wish you would find happiness with me.”
Her gaze sharpened. “Yes, that is, in fact, selfish.”

Hot, angry tears stung Marinette's eyes, threatening to spill over. She checked that time. 1:15 am. So what if it was late? She was going to call him right then and demand to know what changed. She deserved an answer. Marinette dialed Adrien's number, making her way up to the balcony with a blanket wound tightly around her. Her finger hovered over the call button for a few seconds, a voice that sounded awfully like Tikki's telling to rethink this, to call later.
Marinette tapped the button.
