It was late. The television flickered, volume turned low, as it played some sort of nature documentary. The lights were off, pajamas were draped over tired bodies, and Mei’s arm was around Fu Hua’s waist, as they laid on the couch.
It was a lazy evening in, takeout boxes in the trash, and half empty mugs of tea on the coffee table. They didn’t get to have very many of these—both Mei’s and Fu Hua’s schedules were often rather hectic—so each one felt like their own little slice of paradise.
“I love you, baby,” Mei said, pressing her lips to the back of Fu Hua’s head.

She has to bite the inside of her cheek so she doesn’t scream, and she can taste the tang of copper on her tongue.
Eventually, after Silence had stood in the doorway for much too long, Saria notices her, and throws her a grin. “Hi, Olivia.”
Silence marches right up to her, and swipes the cigarette from her hand, fury burning in her expression. “You don’t get to call me that anymore,” She says, voice low, and fierce.
