But Castiel has changed as well, his words and appearance gaining edge and confidence, and the walls he's built to protect his soft underbelly have grown tall.
Dean's been falling in love with the emo queer kid for as long as he can remember, and he regrets losing touch with him for years after being profoundly bonded, so now he's working to try and get him back. If only it were that simple. Does Cas want to know the person Dean is now?

If it had ever been more than that— well, he certainly wasn’t clear about it and Joyce was treading the surface of her grief for months, all to keep her household in one piece.
There’s just no way. Surely she wouldn’t have missed picking up on—
She rolls her eyes. The red light changes to green and the car in front of her hesitates for half a second, so she angrily beeps her frustrations. When Joyce sees that it’s an elderly woman in the driver’s seat, she sinks into her own, and avoids making eye contact as she turns.
Fuck, she finally thinks, turning onto her road.
“Fuck,” she mutters as she parks in the gravel driveway.
There is no feasible way she’s jealous.
