"So, what, he's poisoned himself to...chase people?"
Shadowheart shoots a glance his way. "To kiss them."
"What?" Astarion exclaims, taken aback. "Disgusting! Who'd want a kiss from Gale, of all people? Probably feels like having an animal rub against your face."
Another glance from Shadowheart. "Thought about it, have you?"
The noise that leaves him is not kind. "Absolutely not, don't be ridiculous."
He hasn't. Of course he hasn't. Why ever would he? Preposterous to imagine kissing Gale, when-

A simple error with some alchemy makes Gale's tadpole act very strange indeed, but everything goes better than expected.

Astarion waves one arm, and a swarm of shining, writhing tentacles follow his lead. He moves the other, and a second swarm hurries to obey. He can feel his connection to their movement through the spell. When he guides one swarm closer to Gale, the tendrils start to reach out towards his skin, like a grasping many-fingered hand.
“Gale Dekarios, you disgusting little pervert,” Astarion says with wonder, swimming his hands back and forth, revelling in the way the spell follows his every movement. “How long have you been working on this?”

Summary
So maybe Astarion has noticed Gale acting strangely the last couple of days. He’s been quiet, slow to rise in the morning, dragging his feet on the trail, less quick to respond to Astarion’s conversation. But what’s it to Astarion? Talking about these sorts of things isn’t what he and Gale do.

Only: rebuilding a shattered Karsite relic — with nothing but the ciphered notes of an ancient Ur-Mage, a bomb with renewed hunger in his chest and a thoroughly disappointed tressym who refused to have anything to do with any of it — hasn’t proved exactly fruitful. Which is why Gale mostly spends his time in his darkened study, trying to spin together the frayed remains of forgotten magic into something that might resemble a fraction of the power he once had.
“It’s complicated,” Gale says to Astarion, at length.
“Oh, I’m sure,” Astarion says. “Must be terribly tricky, dealing with all those arcane powers beyond my comprehension. In your three-week-old pyjamas that smell of vinegar.”

Gale shifts in a way that looks like an attempt at a shrug, but then makes another alarmed noise when the vines shift around him in response.
“Fuck,” says Astarion, and then “Fuck,” and then, “Well. Let’s just try, and then. Ah. If it doesn’t work… we’ll try something else.”
He pulls out his dagger, and Gale makes another little abortive noise. Oh, he supposes it is rather large, isn’t it. All the better to stab people. Less useful for precision Gale extraction.
“Look, it’s this or an even bigger knife,” Astarion says, with only the faintest sliver of contrition. He sighs. “You know I know my way around a blade, Gale. You’re just going to have to trust me.”

Cullen and Dorian's friendship deepens. Cullen is a romantic. Dorian is literally cold. Cullen is no longer certain what he would consider surprising. Mages and Templars working in perfect cooperation, perhaps. Evil and corruption disappearing into the ground along with the blight, blood magic falling so far out of favor it ceased to be. A united Thedas: that would be a surprise.

'It hadn’t started with the withdrawal, of course. If conscious desire was something Cullen had lost at Kinloch Hold, and for all the years between, his physical capability had been a slower casualty, unnoticed and unmourned at first, to the lyrium. And even after the fear was done, after he could look at a woman or man - even a mage - and find his mind lingering on their skin (its dips and hollows, and the ways he might make them gasp) it seemed his cock was still disinclined to participate.
It was bearable, though: lonely and cold, but no more than he deserved. Sometimes he thought of the rows of Tranquil Meredith had branded in Kirkwall, and that in this small way, he was one of many, partaking in the consequences of his own sins.
It was bearable, until Dorian.'

Were Dorian back home, they would fuck a few times to get whatever it is building between them out of their systems then go back to their regularly scheduled lives. They would most likely never speak again unless required to by a formal setting, and both parties would be expected to keep their deviant activities a secret.
But they aren’t in Tevinter, and what’s building between them isn’t sexual desire, not really.

Astarion’s lips curl into a smirk. He dips his head to one side and taps one fingertip against his lips—they’ve got glittery gloss on them. Gale can almost taste it. “Hmm. How interesting. And does Mrs. Dekarios know you’re here?”
No. He came here to cheat on his wife. The integrity of such an establishment is up in the air, but it’s doubtful the staff want to cause trouble. It’s just Gale’s luck that this particular member of staff lives in the house next door.
