Summary
To see the fall of paradise was not something meant to be seen by mortals. It peels them apart from the inside out, leaving them to rot in the arms of life. The hope that drives mortals abandons them, having the remaining husk be nothing more than a failed attempt at something that was supposed to be much more.

Summary
“I’ve always been taught it was a weakness to want such things. To want much of anything, but the bare minimum required for me to keep fighting. In Winter, giving up the fight means you lose, either yourself or others, to the cold or to a threat. I am in charge of them all. I have to fight so they will too, but the benefits aren’t for me to reap. Sometimes you have to lose things, Clarion, for others to have them.”
Clarion had been braced for all types of challenges now that she finally had Milori back. Even though this was supposed to be the easy part. Even though their love was no longer doomed to end at nightfall. Even though they’d bridged the border. She wasn’t naïve enough to think it would be easy, not in a land of magical freezes and sentient trees and divisions that ran so deep.
Clarion, who was so used to losing people, hadn’t realized that getting them back also meant having to confront who she had become in their absence.
