Dumbledore wanted him to work at Hogwarts. As a teacher. Him, Remus John Lupin, who had barely been allowed into Hogwarts the first time round.
This must be a joke. Not only was Remus in no way qualified to teach Defence Against the Dark Arts, he was also not capable of teaching for an entire school year.
On top of that Remus straight up did not want to.
