    Summary

“Please, Miss Peregrine—” You said, only to be cut short.

    “Alma.”

    “Pardon?”

“Alma. It is only fitting you addressed me as Alma if I addressed you as Y/N.”

What was this woman doing to you?

You were bordering the line of desperation now. You needed her to believe you.

“Wait,” You called after her. “I know it’s Abe on the line. Let me answer, and I can prove I am telling the truth.”

    Or

You cannot lose your only family left. So when you found out he was going to die, you went to the only person you knew who could help. But suddenly you found that you didn’t want to leave, after escaping for so long. Well, Alma Peregrine did have such an effect on people. 1940s, Post WWII.

    Summary

She breathes in before she can stop herself. Deep, unmistakable, the kind of inhale that has nothing to do with reading a paragraph.
    Emily freezes.
She pulls back fast, turns, and stares at Andy with her eyes gone wide, something close to panic behind them, like she's just been caught at something far worse than sitting too close to a coworker.
    "Em," Andy starts.
"No." Emily's already standing, already reaching for her bag, voice gone thin and fast. "Andrea. No."
And then she's gone, out the door and into the street like the building's on fire behind her, and Andy is left sitting alone at a table built for four, completely alone, with a half-finished paragraph, a caramel frappe gone warm, and the specific, useless realisation that she misses Emily. Badly. Actively. In a way she hasn't let herself feel in twenty years, and can't, apparently, stop feeling now that she's started.

Or: Andy catalogues fifteen things that have changed in Emily's life, except that they haven't changed at all. Not really.

    Summary

    Baby.

Did Andy Sachs just call me baby in the middle of the Place du Carrousel? In front of the Louvre? In front of French people?

Emily’s internal monologue threw itself off a cliff.

I ran four blocks in four-inch Christian Louboutins for a piece of circuitry and she called me baby. I will run to Berlin right now. I will sprint across the Atlantic Ocean. Give me another errand. Tell me to steal the Mona Lisa, Andy. I will do it.

or: Emily’s internal monologues get increasingly unhinged as she spends time with Andy.

    Summary

’I love you.’ Andy had said ‘I love you’ at 7:45 in the morning in a traffic jam, at the intersection of 10th and West 33rd. Andy had said ‘I love you’ like it was the most natural thing in the world, to love someone like Emily.

Andy had said ‘I love you’ almost thirty seconds ago and Emily had still not said it back.

5 times Emily can’t tell Andy she loves her, and one time she can (sort of)

    Summary

“Half the fun for you is me being here,” Andy says out loud, a discreet red tinting her cheeks and giving away the sudden warmth in her veins beneath her teasing, light tone.

“Don't make me laugh,” Emily mutters, though her incessant tapping slows down.

    or

Three years after reuniting, Emily and Andy have built a life in the margins of their high-powered careers between weekly game nights and the ever-lingering ghost of Runway. But when a Dior event whisks them away to the sub-bleached cliffs of Sicily, the carefully kept distance between them is disturbed, forcing both to reckon with a dormant truth that has been waiting, like the Mediterranean tides, to claim them.
