You love him.
You love him so much it hurts, you love him so much it scares you. It's wrong, they tell you. It's wrong, you parrot back. But he's so pretty when he hands you the flower, he's so pretty when he cries, he's so pretty when he looks at you like you're the only thing in his world.
But you hide, and he runs. You lose him, you watch him disappear and take your world with him.
You never get over him. You never will, but years later, maybe the teammate who reminds you of that boy that you adored so dearly can be let in over a drink. Maybe the Austrian giant who messes with his fingers and stands to the side just like your teenage love used to can be let into your life, maybe you can find a friend in the similarities they share.
Or maybe you're just too scared of love to see what's been in front of your eyes the whole time.

Indignation spurs in his chest. In one quick movement, he’s got a handful of Soap’s thermal shirt in his fist and he’s tugging, pulling Soap closer until they’re face to face and sharing the same breath. “You watch your tone, Sergeant,” Ghost seethes. “That’s an order.”
“You can’t keep hiding.” Soap lowers his voice, speaks barely above a whisper.
“You don’t know what you’re saying.”
Soap blinks slowly. “I won’t hurt you.”
He’s painfully aware of the way his lips are parted, aware that Soap can see them—that he’s staring directly at them. “That’s not what I’m afraid of.”
“Then what are you afraid of,” Soap breathes, “Simon?”
